Opium

Opium

A Poem by Jeannette Lunete

Not positioned and untouched

Darkness was a transit for poised nonchalance

The shell was healed, yet still undone

Hidden and transferred into blind pupils

The light was funelling towards demolished thrills

If eternity embraces time

His lips will still split a rhyme

A dome sheltered in imprisoned pride

A roulette of syllables melting down his spine

Floating down her throat, like poisoned wine

Sorrow overwhelms my senses when I think of all the friends I've known who were taken by opium (and other derivatives, thereof) in my youth and over the ensuing years.
It's a slowww, torturous death no one benefits by.
What amazingly metaphorical power, emotion, and imagery your very skilled pen has scribed for our entertainment, impact, and awe.

I am a dedicated admirer of Free Verse, and this is about as good as it gets … you're the real deal.
Thank you ever-so gratefully for laying it on us, Jeannette! ⁓ Richard 🍃
