Realization 5

A Poem by Anand Sehgal

Everyday, in fact every moment ,
so much of nonsense
is being gulped down .
News, views , reviews ;
just like a handful of salted cashew-nuts ,
are being munched indiscriminately .

Our thought process has stopped thinking for ourselves ,
as it has become by and large a big-shopper,
so tightly knit,
air-tight .
Nothing flows out of the marsh-mind,
and I wonder at times,
'has the word evacuation died ? ' ,
'Is there no other adjective alive,
other than the one called 'cached' ? '

My ruminating conscience tends to regain the
strength of its baritone in these moments ;
A rumbling cliche reverberates -
'When act of forgetting can't save,
perhaps an act of unlearning may !'

Your words are yet a mystery....I read this three times over, and each time I read it, I walk away with a different meaning. Complex, almost too complex to read late at night with a tired moooshy mind. lol Great poem.

I'm wondering what you are really trying to say here, stanza one is wonderful and easy enough to understand, I love the metaphor using nuts as an adjective to describe the quality of life we all endure with the media and such, we have stopped thinking for ourselves and have become shuffled animals without conscious thought to our daily activities and that seems true enough, and in stanza three the baritone, the deep "authoritative voice" the grown up voice commands to unlearn what you can't forget?
is that possible?

something like that, but here the thing is that you erase your memory forcefully :)
Ah I love the act of forgetting vs. unlearning. One is conscious the other not. I like the juxtaposition of those concepts they are highly effective.

Thanks so much dear leena :) how are you doing?
Ha if the news and views were as tasty as cashew chews we all be singing hallelujah. 'marsh-mind' make me laugh...a serious topic of discussion here, you made it enjoyable and tasty food for thought....!

Glad that you liked it Frieda. thank you . How are you doing?
This is a powerful write and one that is sadly true. No one does anything from their own minds anymore. We are all following each other, seemingly running circles until they are the graves we have tread into the earth.
Brilliant thought process in this and great job expressing it! :)

Thanks so very much Dear :)
Powerful stuff you've penned here Anand. Our thought process has stopped thinking for ourselves...I love that line, it says so much about life and humanity as we know it. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a cynical person, and with every passing day, freedom feels more and more like a myth to me. The mere notion of a thought process almost feels like a luxury nowadays. There isn't a whole lot of leeway allotted to us anymore when it comes to being ourselves. Love this piece :)

I am honored to receive your comments Kubla. Thanks so much :)
So many people conform and follow the trends of this world. No one wants to dare and be different! It's about time we all go out there and actually be ourselves instead of becoming who others think we should be.
Great write!
