Goodbye Cocaine

A poem I wrote in a drug rehab/treatment facility with approximately only 26 days CLEAN.

"Goodbye Cocaine"

Cocaine you drove me insane,

you buried your roots deep in my brain.

Made me forget my pain,

yet sell all my things.

You rode on my back,

never giving any slack.

You lied to my mind, body, and soul,

your worthless to me I'd rather have coal.

You have sent me to prison and left when I'm fine,

only to come back when I faced some tough times.

You robbed me of my life, family, and friends,

you drugged me so fast, held me at bitter ends.

I can hardly believe I trusted you again,

So cocaine it's "screw you" and all of your friends,

Your cousins Crystal & Meth, Mary & Jane,

even the liquid that floats my sad brain.

Bud doesn't make me wiser just leads me to you,

so now it's revealed your one big bad crew.

I have never been scared so here's what I'll do. 

With help from faith and powerful friends,

your whole frigging crew has now met their end.

The end of destruction, control of my life,

eventually I'll be back someday find a wife.

You and your crew wont be in my life,

you come with a smile yet cut like a knife.

Guilt, shame, and remorse, a million pounds in rough weather,

Calm seas up ahead, I'm light as a feather.

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee,

now I'm the champ you will run from me.

As long as I'm training you all don't have a chance,

find some other poor soul for your victory dance.

With each little step, as each single day comes,

you'll soon start to realize I'm no longer your bum.

So I bid you farewell you lying stealing witch,

the light has come on, someone just "flicked" my switch.

So good bye to you and your whole crew, because not one is any better,

I left a sad junkie, coming home a go-getter.

Good bye all you will not be missed.

Author's Note

Written in a treatment facility/rehab in California when I had only 26 days clean. I have been clean since 10/10/2014. I had a lot of curse words in this piece, which I edited, you can guess where they fit in. Today I try to refain from projecting foulness from my mouth. See how I changed my Dope story into a Hope story on google+ or YouTube @ "Don't just B, but B amazing!" on both.

An addiction so vividly described, I could read the story of a life profoundly affected by a slow poison. An addiction takes away everything from us. It has a heavy price. Yet reading this thought-provoking poem led me to ponder further on the fact that most of humanity today is addicted to something. Almost everyone is in search of a fix. It could be drugs, alcohol, food, shopping, smartphones, gambling, sex/porn, just about anything. Everyone is on their own trip.

The thing to be careful about is that no addict is ever out of the danger zone. They will always be vulnerable to falling back....

Thank you, I'm not proud I just feel blessed some people never get the chance to STOP and chase their dreams. Luckily I have been afforded that luxury, and OH am I on that chase! ;-)

so now it's revealed your one big bad crew." - super clever - in fact there are so many gems in this write that Im going 'diing!' thats a good one 'ding!' another good one and didnt stop doing that from the Budwesier line. Doesnt mean the start was any less strong though.

Wow, don't usually read notes until through, but now glad I did because it is YOU. What an honest, heartwarming write. I loved every single word. The way you put all those bad guys in a case and kicked them to a curb was wonderful - I was cheering you on as I read, not knowing it was you and now I'm cheering even louder because I know you mean it too. I couldn't emphasize enough on how similar this poem is to some of mine. I haven't posted any yet, but this is inspiration. I'm glad you can relate my "clean date" is 10/10/2014 but I was only 26 days IN REHAB when I wrote this piece. Thanks & Stay strong. in August I buried a dear friend of mine who, over the many years of addiction, just could not
get beyond it. Oh she talked boldly as if she could turn it off whenever she got ready. But she
never got ready. Drugs are a powerful thing and they do take victory over ones soul.
Thankfully you can poeticize with sentimentalized inspiration, like a forgotten lover,
what shutting the door on that compulsion can mean.
