Seventeen

Seventeen

A Poem by Blake Q Hatfield
"

Reflection on how we thought we knew it all, and how we should have listened more.

"

17 and you thought you could lie
17 with windows in your eyes
just 17 trying to be more than your life
oh just 17, and ready to die

17, you thought you knew the world
oh 17, never kissed a girl
just 17, never really seen the world
17, wild fantasies in your head
at 17, yearning to get in bed
fast paced at 17, never using you head
you're just 17, and you're almost dead

to fast for this world
to slow to understand
to innocent to comprehend
to green to ask for a helping hand
man you're just 17, trying to rule the world

you're just 17, so listen when i say
trying to give ya a warning,
trying to keep you safe for another day
i been there, seen the world for what it was
oh i remember 17, the days i thought i could take the world
when i was 17, yearning for a girl
17 lost and with out a clue
oh 17, not knowing what to do
just 17, wanting to live anew
man just enjoy 17, you never get another chance
just be 17, forget the day
live 17, see world day by day
you're 17, you have time to make your way
so live on tomorrow, never dying on the day
17, a great time to play
so be 17, leave adulthood for another time

Oh so true~ teetering on the edge of Seventeen can be a difficult time to

get thru~ You think you know it all yet there you are Green and 17

Great advice to heed Leave adulthood for another time~would be nice

to be Seventeen Forever~Great Pen! THanks for entering Lucky 13 contest

I just turned 17 too, and I also think it is a complicated and fragile time. I certainly will take your advice enjoying the last year before adulthood.

i really liked the whole stream to this... the whole, just 17 and 17 and oh 17... I liked the way you set the present with the past *if you get what i'm trying to put across so unclearly*.... past experiences mixing with wisdom and advice... The invincible feeling... I think everyone knows it, but there has to be a line, and in time, we all find it... *or something a lot like it*

(personal favorites)

17 and you thought you could lie
17 with windows in your eyes

i like the imagery of the reflections and the lying... everyone has to get through stages like that, and I just like the idea of mirrors as a whole....

trying to keep you safe for another day
i been there, seen the world for what it was
oh i remember 17, the days i thought i could take the world
when i was 17, yearning for a girl

so pretty.... Warnings never heeded for living in the moment... I think everyone loves to taste the unknown... and without taste, there is only hesitation and desire of the unknown...

man just enjoy 17, you never get another chance
just be 17, forget the day
live 17, see world day by day
you're 17, you have time to make your way
so live on tomorrow, never dying on the day

you don't really know what you've got, til it's gone... I liked this bit here especially, because it made it seem a lot more like a father-son thing, but with the present sense, it's even more of a continueum of thoughts and learning. There is of course tomorrow, so don't outdo today... I get a lot out of this... really lovely... (I also like how you used the number instead of writing it out)
