Like A Concerto

Like A Concerto

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

fleeting memories

"

My faceless beauty

time has taken

 thine silhouette from me.

You waltz there in the mist

of yesterday.

I cling to the hope of remembering

Here in the shadow of dread.

Like a concerto playing in my

memory I reach for us once again.

I read this a few ways and I thought that was a great aspect of it.

Alzheimer’s runs in my family, and I’ve watched more than one family member descend into a place where everything around them seemed unfamiliar from one moment to the next. It’s an uncomfortable thing to experience and always makes me wonder what it is like to be the one living with that condition.

Your poem kind of reminded me of that dance between memory and forgetfulness. But also it brought to mind the way aging makes our view of ourselves change, and there’s that dance between memory and present experience where we are moving back and forth between the two understandings of the same life.

I liked the movement and multiple possibilities of the poem. It was great to read.

ohhhh, this is so very beautiful and deeply moving, almost brought a tear to my eye. what will be left is the inner beauty, never the beauty of the face, and real love what will survive through the long long years....

Thank you Light
Strange how someone else's gentle phrases say what self's feelings have needed to find. You've perhaps written for yourself, not realising that how you feel is all emcompassing, reaching out to that 'us' that many of us had but now.. look for aware that..

You really do write with an emotional pen, Cherrie. More than thanks for sharing..

Thank you, Mary
I found these words to be both moving and rather sad... two of the hallmarks that can make a good poem great, in my book.... N

my pleasure as always...
dear Cherrie... “you waltz in the mist of a waltz... like a concerto playing in my memory”. I cherish the memory of my Mother who played Vienna Waltz’s by Strauss with our Yellow Canary singing along endlessly. I also think of the song, “and when I get too old to dream... I’ll have you to remember”. Cherrie, your poetry is “sweet to my heart”. truly, Pat

I find myself pining for yesterday. It's sweet to think back on all the good times and bad. It's not that I'm against living in the moment and all, that's better and it should be, but I feel your powerful and painful words concerning the slow disappearance of memory. The fading sand through the fingertips of what make us who we are. I have a brother who remembers everything, everything! I feel like punching him when I see him. Ha! This is a very nice piece of poetry, Cherrie. So vivid.

I loved this poem. Honest and good words shared.
"I cling to the hope of remembering

The above lines is true for me. Easy to fall into the shadow of the dread. Hard to find the light of hope. We must. Thank you Cherrie for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.
