Refuge

Refuge

A Poem by George Coombs
"

Concerned with a need for safety. the image is a painting of mine called 'Loved Ones Are A Garland of Flowers

"

Refuge

here

in a room

rest,

           watching

light

gild my

space.

nourished

by stillness

in a gull hymned morning

aware

of the person

          vulnerable

yet

here

calm and alone.

looking

into the light

knowing

freedom

where the mind

walks a

pilgrim’s path

           shadows

are teachers

of deeper knowledge.

the true self lives

fully here.

sky is vast

as the mind.

           waiting horizon

comes nearer each moment

while coolness anoints

preparing me to go on.

First, George,
I think your beautiful paintings should be displayed in the fuller size above your poems, to enjoy as we read.
To me, the true essence of your poem is multifold: it expresses beautifully the feeling of comfort and peace of body, mind, and (perhaps) soul, and their open susceptibility, of how the path walked toward spiritual enlightenment gifts liberation, how even the darkest places within and outside hold esoteric and exoteric understanding and wisdom to further complete our beings … yet, we'll never learn it all.
Ahh, but that refreshing breeze that leads us forth, just one step farther, just one more thought, one more emotion, one more glimpse into infinity.
George, I can almost hear you giggling at my fumbling mumbles … I never was worth a hoot at interpretation, but I dearly love the originality and creativity of, your presentation, so all's not been lost on a peasant, eh? : )

Thank you so much, My Friend, for this moment shared in easy enjoyment! ⁓ Richard
