Demon Blade

Demon Blade

A Poem by The Iron Horseman
"

A lighthearted poem about the demise of the Lord Of Death and his demon blade.

"

“I am the Lord of Death,” he said,

As he wielded the Demon Blade.

“I've made countless legions of the dead,

I don't know how many I've slayed.”

“Their shades cry out my name,

As they stalk the astral plane.

They are the stakes in our cosmic game,

My sword thrives on their pain.”

The sword howled and screamed,

As it sought to trap my soul.

The demon that possessed it dreamed

Of sucking all life into a black hole.

“Every soul the Demon Blade drinks

Adds years on to my life.

I have learned how the evil blade thinks,

I feed it on chaos and strife.”

“I have already lived for a thousand years.

I plan to live for a thousand more.

I will create a vale of tears,

Wading through blood and gore.”

The Demon Blade shrieked as the Lord attacked,

It whirled, it thrust, it slashed.

My foot caught, I stumbled, recovered and backed.

I twirled, I fled, I dashed.

When I was sufficiently far away,

I turned to make my stand.

I felt it was time to have my say,

It was not to go the way he planned.

“You may have lived a thousand years,” I said,

“But you are really not too bright.

If you had a single thought in your head,

You wouldn't bring a knife to a gunfight.”

The Lord of Death looked puzzled,

As he saw my weapon rise,

He gazed straight down the muzzle,

As I shot him right between the eyes.

The Demon Blade moaned and wailed,

As I melted the damned thing down.

Now it's nothing but pretty jewellery,

Worn by the ladies in my town.

Hello, what a lovely write up. At first as I was reading images of the mess the world is in came to mind. As I neared the end of the story I smiled for sure. How much fun is it to defeat the lord of death because he ain't too smart. Great poem. Cheers!

Yay! :D.......
So the moral of this story is.
If you're going to go up against dirty harry with a knife.
Be prepared to lose your life.
Cos, boy, he's packing a gun.
A big gun.
So do your best.
Take a swing.
Dig the epitaph.
Now a diamond 'ring.'

A perfect ending to the story in the poetry. I liked the characters and the battle. Even demon blades must be melted and forgotten. Thank you for sharing the entertaining write.

I did enjoy your work and you are welcome. A Demon blade. A one time meeting.
Quite the story telling in this piece and I loved the ending but I’m afraid of what the metal next to ladies skin would do to her mental state. Great writing

Quite imaginative way to blend violence & humor! Your rhyming is well-done & the rhythm is pretty good, with the exception of a longer line or two. I love the way you use dynamic verbs to paint this as an action scene. And of course, we all love to see the beast slaughtered. I found myself having flashbacks of our current strife-filled politics with The Chump at the helm! *sigh!* (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
