The Biscuit Eater

The Biscuit Eater

A Poem by Leslie Philibert

from outside a nest of light
warm with steam and quilt
and slippers worn with steps;
a kitchen ship and dad crunching

when I think of this
i nearly say i miss you

your closing line is what really jumps out at me ...preceding it is warm and genuine feelings for Da ... and i do miss mine as well ... i am very fortunate that my relationship with him survived my lunacy of "growing up" ... once that was accomplished we had many discussions and beers together ... he wasn't really a biscuit eater but he loved his Navy beans ;) your closing line makes me think that your speaker is hesitant to say "i miss you" for unknown reasons ..but i think of something abusive :( so glad you shared this Les ... it brought ol' Da to the forefront of my mind this morning

Leaving the nest is bitter sweet
No matter how perfect the memory you can never go back

Sir you are directly responsible for invoking a delightful flood of memories and the faintest whiff of my own dear Dad's cologne and whom I still miss terribly. For that, I sincerely thank you.....Neville
