I made a wishA Poem by MadeiraI made a
wish among the almond trees, As the
blossoms began to fall, The wish
was borne unto the breeze, The universe
heard the wind’s call. Suspended
between language and the world, The wish
tossed and turned on the breeze, Until one
day the wind subdued, Finding a
man praying on his knees. The wish had
now found someone Filling their
whole being with love, On that day
he left his country, In search
of a sign from above. Like the
wish he travelled near and far, Until he
reached at last my home town, Exhausted now
from his travels, He wanted
at last to lay his head down. He came to
me upon that night, As I
watched my Father’s motel, Scratching
the glass of our dreams, Violets
blossomed as clear as a bell. Within the
droplets of a lilac twilight, We both heard
the church bells ring Our wishes had
now been granted Our tender
hearts, began to sing. © 2018 MadeiraReviews
