Compassion

Compassion

A Poem by Neville

Compassion

In a moment of unparalleled compassion

I walked boldly over to the window

And opened my hand

Releasing the mosquito

Later that same evening however

Above my head and amidst the vast expanse

Of my whiter than white bedroom ceiling

That very same mosquito

Whiled away the remaining daylight hours

Unashamedly practicing

Upside down press-ups

Until the night came

And then dived like a Stuka

Striking precisely that point on my neck

Where the pulse might still be felt

Just in time for Hallo's beginning and those lil blood suckers...must be fate that this slid beneath my door.

Ah but the window was open too, to let the big ones out.... cheers CQ..... N
I have three exterminators (cats) that bring such things to my attention. You should see my tabby's attempts to catch flies. It's like watching a trapeze artist. Of course, I have to intervene so he doesn't swallow them. Eeww! I try to exercise my compassionate nature, but for the times they scare the crap out of me - they're history!

Neville, you are a unique writer! At par with the wits and humorists of the classic age- Lewis Carroll and Oscar Wilde would be proud.

"Gratitude is an earned merit. Forgetfulness is not"- mosquitoes and several people unfortunately fall within this trope. I am still gawking at your ability to blend in the perfect climax to an already enchanting poem.

Take a bow and show us how.

Best,
M.

Your exceedingly clever allegory shows the main reason I'm such a ruthless b***h when it comes to kicking a guy to the curb. I have found that compassion never pays. But you knew that . . . and you illustrate it so uniquely as only you can do! *wink! wink!* Nubs & nugs & nuts (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Hahaha!!! So much for your compassion, my friend! There are some creatures that look better flattened out cold. The humour comes across fabulously and this poem is clever and great fun to read.

Ya should have flattened the b*****d when you had the chance. There are some things that deserve compassion, those little whatsits carry disease and have got no manners or consideration. They like me too. Must be something in the blood. Having said that your third stanza is fabulous. The idea of that mosquito having a work out before it dive bombs is hilarious. That's the difference between you and me, man of very much compassion. Mine doesn't yet reach every living thing. Great work Neville.
