The Busy Pen

The Busy Pen

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

A day in the life of my busy ball-point.

"
The Busy Pen

Today I did a cryptogram
Composed a poem, took an exam
Jotted down a list for the store
Authored a novel, tallied a score
Wrote a letter to my best friend
Proofread a story from beginning to end
Scheduled things to do next week
Addressed invitations, wrote a speech
Put a memo on my bulletin board -
The pen IS mightier than the sword!

Author's Note

Rita L. Sev
Had a conversation with a colleague the other day about how I still compose EVERYTHING (stories, poems, lesson plans, lists, tests...) in longhand. While I am grateful for technology, I need to feel the pen in my hand, the shape of the words, for the work to be truly 'mine'.

dear friend Rita ... i think there is much more in this expression than a pen in hand ... how busy can it get? with a volcanic reminder

I could measure the business of a day with the level of ink in my pen... Thanks so much, E!
This is so true! And very relateable too.
Though, i can't deny, i'm a huge fan of the keys on my laptop when it comes to doing projects or writing stories and what not; no gadget can replace my poetry book however...none i can think of at least. ;)
Nice write great 'penner'. lol

:) Thanks, Kwiksie!
I admire ya. I am hooked on the net book -- that writer's callous on my middle finger is almost gone after 5 years of not really writing longhand ...

Ha! Well, whatever works for you! It certainly would take up less space and paper if I could learn.. read more
It warms my heart to hear this Rita haha I feel the exact same way...I don't type anything until I have a finished piece, I absolutely must write on paper. Sometimes that means staring at a blank page for long stretches of time (for as long as an hour and maybe more) but that's my element. My pen is indeed my sword...great piece :)

Oh it is, without question ;)
I agree! I love the way different pens look different ways and so much more personal than any typed paper. I also really enjoyed your poem.

Thank you, Cristiberry - I appreciate it!
Ah this is a unique treat . I don't think it will be ever replace by modern technology. If Pen is ever abolish or went extinct then so as our post office .

Your welcome ! It reminds me of someone or something, like the Pad.
You are such a talent with clear and great ideas. Did I stroke your ego enough? Haha

:) Thanks, Mike!
I use a very sharp pencil to write. I cannot do it on the computer! So strange. Loved this!

:) I have "low vision", so it is difficult to see pencil... Black ink on yellow legal pads preferred.. read more

Paper what's that? I've transitioned completely to the smartphone.
Where can I buy such a pen Rita ? ;)
I probably couldn't afford one though - it seems like you - priceless
