Whisper...

Whisper...

A Poem by Rita L. Sev

An all-pervading silence…

            No din to pierce the night

Then, I heard one whispered word;

            No shadow was in sight

Syllables familiar

            Seemed foreign on this air

An ominous, foreboding voice

Delivered all despair

No moonlight or sweet candle flame

            Illuminate my soul

Absolution comes too late;

            My spirit is unwhole

And in this vast and lightless place

            Again, the whisper came

The sibilant sigh, beckoning…

            …How does it know my name?

Thank you so much, Anna! I am so glad you enjoyed this piece!
I am so happy you submitted this to my Halloween Contest. I am so happy I could place you in it. I am not so happy about the goosebumps I get when I think about some unknown entity watching me and maybe whispering my name. I get freaked out by stuff like this so easily. Good job on doing just that! Angi~

Ha! You are a smarty! Love you for that, too! xoxo
From another dimension we hear whispers.....I actually believe that is true. However, when the voice is ominous and forboding, it is the stuff nightmares are made of! A great write for Halloween....the rhyming is super and the images eerie! Lydi**

That's why I hide behind a pseudonym........great stuff this Rita......But being a big kid I instantly likened it to Santa Claus.....Just softening the edges I suppose.....Thanks for posting

Rita, I very much enjoy this type of poetry, the original use of words mixed with a flowing rhyme. Nice work.

Thank you, Will!
We are cross-connected and keenly aware that there are things beyond our knowing. In such moments, the senses are heightened; and we are faced with our impermanence. You captured the haunt but subtley subdued it with a "sibilant sigh."
