Tell Me

Tell Me

A Poem by Vasilees Sybissyl
"

Tell her, what is death?

"

Pray, tell me,

What is death?

A reason to part,

Or one to nestle you closer?

For I know you still lay next to me

And send your sweet kisses my way

Should I lose faith

And stop doing the same?

Pray, tell me,

What is death?

A way for you to leave,

Or one to hold me forever?

For I know you still hug me when I cry

And rock me to sleep.

Should I lose faith

And let you fade away?

Pray, tell me,

What is death?

A reason to forget you

Or one to remember you forevermore?

For I know you still hold my hand

And hug me when I’m cold.

Should I lose faith

And leave you all alone?

Pray, tell me,

What is death?

A reason to shed tears,

Or one to smile?

For I know you still guide the stars to me

Just to see me smile

Should I lose faith

And stay stuck on the bridge

Between us?

I think you have written a gentle, thoughtful poem. I think I choose the second of your suggestions, 'A reason to shed tears, Or one to smile?' We can remember those who have died with fondness, and yes, they do still seem to be around us. Lovely poem.

Interesting look at two ways one can deal with death; grief or celebration.
