Oblivious

Oblivious

A Story by Silent Wolf
"

Fiction. But, it's just a wake-up call to those who are oblivious.

"
I remember when it first started. I was there, and I regret not doing anything, and not noticing how much it affected her. I remember all the names she was called, and I could only imagine how many times she had cried herself to sleep. But everyday, she walked in with a smile and walked out with a broken light. I still remember all the names of the people who did it to her. I had watched her from a distance, watched as she walked away from everything, turned her back on the world her heart had so blindly opened up to. But I had been oblivious.
I remember her kindness and the light in her eyes as she helped a challenged kid understand something, or the caring touch she brought when trying to comfort somebody who was hurting. I remember how she was alone when she needed help, and how frustrated with herself she would get. I remember, in her final weeks, how she started pulling away from everybody, wearing long sleeves and jeans in the summer. I remember her cold yet caring gaze as it landed on each person, how much she seemed dead now. I remember everything so clearly. She hid it all so well.
And I remember getting the news of how she had died. She cried a little too hard, cut a little too deep, bled a little too much, till she bled no more. Nobody had said a word.

This is a shot to the heart and a real eye opener. It is awful that so many people see this but don't do a thing about it. Even the simplest thing like showing you care can save a person's life. I really admire your courage for putting writings like this up for everyone to see to bring awareness. This is an amazing piece.

I agree with Vian, this is so tragic. It happens everyday In real life because people either don't care or just decide it's not any of their business. It's such a bad mindset, but it's reality. You showed it wonderfully.

Lol no problem
It's absolutely tragic. Especially because so often it is the case, this is a real story whether the intent was so or not and it breaks my heart. You've captured it well. I wish people would see and would do something.

Yes, I know all too well it's real. Thank you, though.
This hits too close to home for me...silence is not golden in these tragic instances. Nicely pen'd.
