snowshoeing in my sandals

I hate the end of summer, not because I hate fall, but because of what comes after.

I will deny it
till it breathes its last.

I will pretend the green
has not passed,

I will not notice the
rapid lowering of the sun each day,
nor its hesitancy to rise again --

I refuse to admit it
until the first snow flake falls
 
I paint my toenails blue,
snowshoeing in my sandals,
stubbornly denying the chill in the air.

i love October...favorite month....but then comes November, the listless, bare naked month of lonely leafless trees...everything has an in-between, cold look about it...all the color is gone...nasty winter on its way.
