When Words Mean Nothing

When Words Mean Nothing

A Poem by Chris Shaw
"

When I miss her now, I think of this and know that although it was a long time coming, she got her wish.

"
I, a so called poet,
who can burn a blank page
with word rage,
can turn a lively sparkling sea
into a calm, soothing balm.
Who can conjure up a sunrise
or sink the sun beyond a horizon
paint words in colour
on a grey wet day
evoke the scent of a rose
in the throes of midwinter
and melt snowflakes in summer heat.
I can convey all this
and yet
when my beloved Mum
elderly and frail,
ailing and sick
tells me she wants to die,
all I can do is sigh
and tell her I love her.
I have no words
that will bring her a crumb
of comfort

Whoa… a Crumb of Comfort… my Mum was a Nutritionist and fed her family lots of Healthy Food. To this day I think of my Mum’s Wisdom.. and yet when the Cancer took over her Liver, she became paralyzed and could not speak clearly. However, the Doctor told us she could clearly understand everything said around her.. so we had to choose our words carefully until she took her last Breath. Chris, your Poem has touched my 💜 Heart. tenderly, Pat

Been there my dear
She did say she wanted to die
Just don't let them revive me
She had seen then revive one three times before she was past reviveing

I told the nurse in the her wish
I dont want her to die
I dont want her in pain
Just want her to go peacefully with dignity when her time comes

Beautifully written Christine, wonderfully engaging writing that brings out so well the power gentle value of words especially when they are so skillfully used. Really great writing; I cared for my own latemother who was wheelchair disabled with arthritis among other health issues so, as I am sure you'll understand, there is so much here I can relate to. Brilliant skilled and sensitive use of words; truly great writig

Somethings will break our heart. Your mother's wish for death. Is one. Life is a teacher. We learn, appreciate every second with the people we love. Thank you Christine for sharing your words and your thoughts.

That's a terrible place to be, I know. Inspired words may do a lot of things, but preventing the inevitable isn't one of them. I lost my mum in 1973, but still feel connected. I'm sorry for your pain.

Oh dear how sad and lonely those words must have made you feel when the centre thread of your heart is tugged at and silence is all u speak but if only the words could be heard - the screams of silence the noise of unuttered words- best left unspoken at times/ only the heart can feel these words- love and comfort being sent your way🌹

Oh damn...Christine this is a hard truth and one where understanding takes time. I just lost my dad last week and my ex, the mother of my children was diagnosed terminal at the same time. Its hard to look at this part of life and pretend to be able to write anything that would seem of consequence. But, this is a great start in that it shows the meaning of life isn't in the words, but the moments that we are able to spend. Great writing and so sorry if this is about your mother.
