that thing that goes round and round

that thing that goes round and round

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

that thing that goes round and round

cotton candy kisses,

on the Ferris wheel of love

you held my hand and i bit my tongue

wanting that embrace on the top of the Empire State Building

in a carnival dream

i closed my eyes as we spun out of control

i felt your breath in the eye of my sky

a dark night's lingering

another ticket, another ride

then i woke up as we disembarked

still feeling your hand in mine

even though 50 years had passed

and knew your beauty would persevere

for one more ride,

if only the tickets were still redeemable...

Some moments...and some people....are frozen in time in our memories. Thing is, time does change everything and that embrace atop the Empire State Building could now be someone jumping off the top of the Empire State Building just to escape. :) Great metaphor. Lydi**

"If only tickets were still redeemable..." That's a great way to end this. A great story Jacob. Love, wonderfully fascinating in the beginning, but if it's with the right person it will last a lifetime. And, isn't funny how we never forget that feeling when it was fresh and new, still feeling that hand in ours. Nice, I really enjoyed this.

They say that being in love keeps you young :). This piece reminded me of those precious teenage years.

Love is definitely a ride, but a long beautiful and lasting love, well, that's a ride of a lifetime.
With this nostalgic write, you took me back in time to a place I'd forgotten.

It was magical and wondrous.
I wish "the tickets were still redeemable" too.

yvw :D
I remember that song by the 60s R&B group Blue Magic, "Side Show":

"It'll only cost you 50 cents to see,
what love has done to those like you and me".

if only the tickets from the past were redeemable for the present. What a song. What a poem. What a message.

Lives like that give all of us "hope"... the world isn't a different place now - is just too many have their heads in a wrong place ...now.

and wonder how long the heads will stay there.
