First Date (a song)

First Date (a song)

A Poem by Joshua Donahue
"

This song is about getting those butterflies when you venture out on your first date and instantly sparks fly.

"
FIRST DATE (a song)

Oh, woah, uh-oh
Oh, woah, uh-oh
It was 7pm
You were on your way
To my house
For our very first date

I was going crazy
On what to wear
I couldn’t decide
I couldn’t think clear

But when I got in the car
And I saw your smile
I just wanted to sit and stare
For a little while

(Pre Chorus) I just couldn’t let this go
I couldn’t let it fly, let it pass me by
I just didn’t know what you would do

(Chorus) I just have to say I’m in like with you
Because you make me feel something on the inside
Like I’m finally alive
Don’t know what it is that you do to make me feel this way
But all I’ve gotta say is
Baby, spending time with you tonight
Has been the best first, best first, best first date of my life

It was still early in the night
We found ourselves at a local diner
I wasn’t sure what to expect
But I know you couldn’t have been any kinder

That’s what I kept thinkin’
As we sat at the movies
You held my hand
And you listened to me
When I said

(Chorus) I just have to say I’m in like with you
Because you make me feel something on the inside
Like I’m finally alive
Don’t know what it is that you do to make me feel this way
But all I’ve gotta say is
Baby, spending time with you tonight
Has been the best first, best first, best first date of my life

By the end of the night
I found myself at your place
Sitting on your bed with you
As the silence consumed your face
I was so unsure what you were feelin’
I just didn’t know, didn’t know
What it was you were thinkin’

Then I felt your breath on my skin and you blew me away
As you began to softly say

(Chorus) I just have to say I’m in like with you
Because you make me feel something on the inside
Like I’m finally alive
Don’t know what it is that you do to make me feel this way
But all I’ve gotta say is
Baby, spending time with you tonight
Has been the best first, best first, best first date of my life

Modernly written and as you said it is more like a song than a poem... I like the story which is simple, directly painted and it's not strange to teens' life. the last two lines before the last chorus are my best and i like the sentence "silence consumed your face"
