Ashley and Ash-Tree

Ashley and Ash-Tree

A Poem by Emily Dickinson Jr.

The snow falls on silence

Ash-field expanses of grey

Bla-Blop, Bla-Blop

They scatter and they mix

Making a colorful

Pallet of death

Skeletal tongues

Are where they settle

And absence of laughter

Echoes loudly

Images of once proud fathers

Images of happy plump mothers

Scatter to nothing, buried under ash

And further buried under snow

Life comes after tragedy

And Green meets the world

A New Rebirth!

Peaking from snow and grass

Is a sliver of a small pink dress

Perhaps, her name was Sarah?

Or Lauren? Or Ashley?

I know not this unnamed sorrow

From it comes an Ash-Tree

A slender tree of life

Perhaps, symbolizing strife gone past

A happy tree in the place of absent laugh

It bends, it sways, and People come again

It sits dewy in the sun

On its bark reads,

“Ashley’s Ash-Tree. Here to stay."

On this tree sits a sleeping girl

In a pink dress

Held by a woman of coloring, gray

So they sit, upon Dear Ash-Tree

Forever and a day
