Invisible Man

Invisible Man

Am I invisible?

Or am I just fine

I’ve noticed

 I’m being unnoticed

Is it all just in my mind?

Your disrespect is detectable

Am I misreading the signs?

Overlooked and under-appreciated

Maybe you’re the one who’s blind.

Not seeing me for who I am

And keeping my light confined

But hiding a star in the dark

Will only increase its shine

There are too many who are unseen

Disregarded and ignored

I hope they heed my transparency

And these words strike a chord

Because the world is full of ghosts

With their heads in the sand

A visual all too visible

Only seen by an invisible man

This was a wonderful read. Very well written and I read it several times - it struck home for me. The feeling and sincerity jumped out at me. "Not seeing me for who I am/And keeping my light confined/But hiding a star in the dark/Will only increase its shine" - beautiful and simple. Well done my friend!

But hiding a star in the dark
Will only increase its shine -- a clever bit of wording here, my friend. I like the imagery and the feel of these lines in particular.

I like the concept of this one; those who have such amazing gifts, but are left to rest in the shadows while others with only half as much "brightness" seem to stand center stage. "Because the world is full of ghosts"...so true, and sadly so. Well written; your light shined brightly here.

thank u Sarah, your words are encouraging :-)
Feeling invisible? I know how that feels, but the ones who go unseen are always the greatest of people in my opinion. They truly are amazing but no one seems to notice, that's where the sad part of it all comes in :p great write :)

Brilliant! Being truly seen is an amazing gift that so few seem to be able or care to do. It reminded me of cellophane man from Chicago (the musical not the band).

We can see others like ourselves.

It takes an invisible man to see another. The thing is, once the invisible man calls out to the next invisible man, he finds he was never invisible in the first place.

I can hear Maya Angelou reciting this. With conviction.

The world is overpopulated. Everyone is too attached to their 4G phone that allow them to Facebook their fake friends. Even though famous people are only human, people are mesmerized by every little thing they do. It is the idiocy of society that turns people invisible.
