You, Me & our Maple Tree

You, Me & our Maple Tree

A Poem by Shalini Dinesh (Poet's World)

I sat under a maple tree,

Trying to write a poem
Setting my mind free,
Jotted down a few words,
Suddenly they wiggled and juggled
Rising high in air like birds.

♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥                                      I looked up in awe,
♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥                         Looking at the words in the air,
♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥                      Couldn’t believe in what I saw,
♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥                          They fluttered around my head,
♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥                          Making teeny weeny moves,
♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥                   Then ordered like beads in a thread.

Fast and smooth they went,
Carrying my thoughts to you,
Like the messenger I’ve sent,
I attached a loving kiss to its tail,
Sending my love to you,
To reach you, zoom they'll sail.

♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥      Even the words knew how much I miss you,
♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥              It flew up and high, into the fluffy clouds,
   ♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥               This kind of longing for you isn’t new,
♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥             A maple leaf came swooping down on me,
♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥       Then I realized that the words still lay here
♡♥   ♡♥   ♡♥                      Only after the leaf fell on my knee.

This tree has lots of memories to remind,
Fresh among it was the last time we kissed,
It always gave shade like a friend so kind,
Now am sitting alone, wishing that you were here,
To accompany me and this friendly tree,
Come back soon to talk, laugh and cheer.

Lovely poem! I like your use of the maple leaf falling on your knee to jolt you back to your present loneliness.

Very nice flow...though improve the third stanza a lil: the last line specifically. The rhyme scheme is unusual and rather jarring in some areas.
It's a terribly nice poem and I'm sure you'll improve with time.
Inspiring...

It took me a minute to find a rhythm for this poem. It seemed a little jagged. But I absolutely love the poem itself. How cute and romantic! It just had such an enchanting feel to it and the imagery was just amazing. I could really see the words fluttering off the page as you're watching in awe. Nice work.

What a beautifully, lifting write! You create the feeling of both wondrous history and the joy of the moment.. that richness that is true love, shared with all the self. This was a joy to read and to imagine this amazing place..
