The Weird Fiction Circle

Description

Weird fiction is a subgenre of speculative literature originating from the 19th and 20th century which focuses on exactly what it says: the weirdest things imaginable. This genre is based around the complete eschewment or drastical reinterpretation of traditional fantasy, sci-fi, and horror, to create a mood that truly feels otherworldly. Famous authors in this circle include Howard Phillips Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, Lord Dunsany, and a few others operating within the Gothic horror genre such as Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker.

And the Weird Fiction Writers' Circle is based around upholding the Weird tradition by sharing and getting feedback on various works in the weird fiction genre. Although it is expected that most of the works here would be based in horror, that is not a requirement, so long as whatever you put forth is most definitely weird. Now, let us heed the call of the other worlds and spread their splendor into the modern day!

Plans are now active for our little group here to host a weird fiction contest called "The Shadow of Lovecraft" on a regular basis. Please submit a work there in it you feel that you have a piece which deserves more recognition

The winner of the first contest was ItStaredBack with their short story, "She Keeps us Here"

The second Shadow of Lovecraft was Dallas Keaton, with their short story "Obsessed"

The third Shadow of Lovecraft was Lum, with their poem "Seraphic Confrontation"

The fourth Shadow of Lovecraft was Fran Marie, with their short story "Resurrecting Morrison".

This group was created in April, 2020.
