Quietude

Quietude

A Poem by AJNJ
"

We're beggars in love ;)

"
In this quietude of today
Have we nothing left to say?
A silence looms and overwhelms
This null and empty kind of realm

I miss our words like clanging pots
That furtive creaking of our cots
Your reprimands that rang through air
Those little things that showed you care

The cloak of Aestas hangs on me
This stillness is an ominous sea
I need an outburst, full and loud
A rumble to dispel these clouds

Hemmed in this airless kind of pit
I look to you from where I sit
I'd rather have you shout not seethe
Just say something, so I can breathe

The winds of love are now so still
My sails are down, I feel the chill
Do blow me off like bits of chaff
Then break in peals of vengeful laugh

So perfect is our synchrony
Your every rant is symphony
I am your mule, just crack the whip
Your foaming cup, do let me sip

A stinging slap, a knuckle rap
Just anything to bridge this gap
This winding tunnel must have light
Let's switch it on and have a fight

You certainly have an interesting take on relationships, Pestonjee! You must be one of those people that enjoy having a scrap once in a while just to keep the relationship hot and spicy as your Aestas weather overhead. In that sense your title is an interesting contrast on the direction that your poem takes. I guess for you that too much quietude puts you on edge. Some people need some conflict around them to feel alive. I adore your line describing the "furtive creaking of our cots".....such a good description there, and overall the poem flows very well and in fine rhyme and rhythm. Your pen is working overtime at present and its ink is flowing fluently and extremely well. This is another fine effort. As always, much enjoyed by this reader!:)))

anything to feel, is better than feeling nothing, great use of language in this, Pestonjee, think we have all been there, where the brooding silence is deafening, and a screaming f**k you is sometimes the best sound of all, arguments show passion, if not love, clever writing

Another well executed write, sir. Quietude is something that I have been getting used to these past few months under lockdown. It's amazing how the mind can function differently once we block out all the noise of daily life. For relationships in lockdown, the stifling of space has been resulting in many scraps between spouses. I read somewhere that the divorce rate is expected to rise as a result of Covid cohabitation and the stress it has created in the home. So, in many ways your dream of fire and spice does come true. Personally I prefer quietude. I'll take peace over chaos anyday. I enjoyed your poem and the underlying thoughts on the title word itself.

This poem is right up my alley and I am surprised I didn't receive an RR for this one! Being a street cat, I am one hell of a fighter and there's never a quiet moment at home. I don't know if my Tom is grateful for it but today he did tell me to eat some Chinese bat soup! He disappeared before I could scratch his b*lls! Keep writing!

4th stanza is my favorite...this poem makes so much sense. I feel some relationships are worse off if there is no fight once in awhile....it usually means a lot of discontent is suppressed.
a very real poem here.
