RUN RUN RUN

RUN RUN RUN

A Poem by AJNJ
"

But where will you run....?

"
Run run from them that follow you
They shadow you unseen
Run run from them that come for you
Things faceless, unforeseen

Run run, they roll in with the fog
The stench of doom they bring
Their leprous lips murmur your name
They drool and flap their wings

Run run far off, they wait for you
Watching you writhe in sleep
Their evil breathes inside your walls
And through your door it seeps

Run run for life,  lest they claim you
The monsters that you make
The corpses hanging in your room
They are your past mistakes

Great write, AJNJ! I believe your poem status line says so much.....when our past mistakes and regrets haunt our lives, just where can we run to? There is no place to run to and hide from the ghosts of our past. I think the best we can do is make peace within ourselves and try and shut out the clanking chains of such ghosts; we can't change the past but we can determine our future. This is a very timely, spooky poem, very fitting for Halloween but also being so much more than just that; it being a very relevant question of our lives and how we live with the mistakes we have made. You have addressed this moral question in a very creative way and in flawless structural poesy. An excellent read and write. 💛

This one is certainly appropriate for Halloween. The speaker seems to be coming from a space of terror, urging all to flee from aggressive monsters that are encroaching by many avenues. In the end, though, this horror story is about the staging area for most monsters, the human mind. The evil creatures come from within us; they are the memories of our past mistakes which we have never laid to rest. They live on because of the attention we give them. Deprive them of that attention, though, and they will die of starvation.

Hello AJ. This reads like a recurring nightmare where you are trying to escape the enemy, but you are rooted. It is of course Halloween today as well. Watch out for those evil spirits. As for mistakes, yes we all make them and we have to accept that and do better next time. Another fine write from your talented pen.

You too sir! And have a great weekend! :)
This is some of the best rhyme & rhythm that I've seen from you, very tight & expressive! I love the Jefferson Starship song "Run, Run, Run, Run Away!" (which is what I feel like doing half the time & why I write escapist poems!) I love how you tell a story in this poem that leads us to believe ghosts & goblins might be after us (since you posted this on Halloween, especially) but then the ending puts a whole different & serious slant on your message. Many of us are running from a lifetime of mistakes (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

My mistakes run and hide from me! I'm one scary cat. Nice poem AJ. I like the creepy idea behind it and the brisk way you executed it.

Difficult to outrun yourself.
Acceptance and self-forgiveness can put an end to this malignant marathon.
Admittedly, not easy.
An eerie, unsettling portrayal, AJ--so appropriate for the day.

Always remember as a kid sleeping at night then awaking to the animate objects in the room coming to life.
The jacket hanging up was always the monster chasing me. I suppose as humans we're always running from our mistakes, probably why we make so many. Probably why they give us January 1st to start the resolutions that end on the 2nd of January.
