A Poem by Audie G. Couch

Free, as the wings that flutter in my dreams.

A dinky eye glares back at me. Its’ swirl-like markings are unforgettable.

Weaving around the bird's body like the print on fine fabric.

Free! Free! I want to be free! The blue bird says to me.

Life, a growing weight, tones, and tones.

The loom of a crushing fate.

Our backwards society cruelly keeps beautiful things encaged.

Free! Free! I want to be free!

In my dreams. The blue bird says to me.

Door opened, I let the majestic creature fly.

Fly, high, fly free.

As I too wish to be.

We can often fly in our dreams, if not in reality. In the western world we can celebrate many freedoms, but we are never truly free of all worry, or certain burdens. Certainly a thought-provoking poem!

Gee
We are all enslaved to various things, jobs, kids, mortgages etc. Only just recently our mortgage psid, our child very much independent and our jobs now less important than they have ever been. It would be just my luck to be mown down crossing the road now that I have the time and disposable cash to live a more relaxed life.
Enjoyed your words

A freed caged pet bird vicariously allows us if but a fleeting sense of freedom from what we see engages us. Thoroughly enjoyed this poem. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Frederick. I'm happy you liked it. I will read some of your writing too.
Freedom is everything. Behind the metaphorical bars there are restrictions of every kind. Who wants to be caged?

When I was a child we had budgies in a cage, now I know better.

We all need wings.
