Best friend

Best friend

A Poem by Beccy
"

It happens.

"
She was only mildly inattentive,
a series of tiny pink hearts
randomly doodled on a blank page,
a slightly dreamy look in her eyes;
hardly enough she imagined
to draw attention.

Then;

'Penny for your thoughts young lady,'
came the voice of doom.
The footsteps silent, almost predatory
as a shadow cast ominous across her desk.
'Your effort thus far seems
rather lacking in content,
perhaps a one hour detention
will focus the mind.'

"I'll tell him you'll be late,'
her best friend whispered at the bell,
a curled smile, a slightly triumphant
look from beneath mascara laden lashes
making her heart beat faster than
the wings of a frightened little bird.
"We'll be in the park, I'll stay with
him and make sure he waits.'

Lol...oh to be young like that and lost in kind of thoughts we should be lost in. And thank goodness for best friends. Loved this Beccy.

I think it’s someone else who’ll have to wait. Nicely written :)

I'm sure the guy will wait for her.
I think the guy will wait for her.
He's not waiting for her, mascara lash has seen to that.
There's a moral in this somewhere, but I'm not looking for it.

In saying that, mascara lash has done her a favour.

I didn't think so at the time. :))

Probably not, but time has this thing about being wiser.
I always had trouble forming meaningful relationships with other girls. There is that constant competition that you’ve so fittingly laid out with this brief portrait of a moment from a girl’s life. It’s not a very comfortable thing to be betrayed by someone you thought you could trust.

Love the details in this, Beccy. From the tiny pink hearts to the mascara laden lashes, just those little snippets offer some insight in the difference between the two girls. One innocent and the other experienced, more worldly. Those are hard lessons to learn. But they sure do teach us who to watch out for!

A charming little poem, albeit a disagreeable place to find oneself in. Returning to the cloudy halls of adolescence.

Thank you. Those cloudy halls hold many memories; some better than others. :))
Hmmmm - with "friends" like this you don't need any enemies.

Take care - Dave

I know people who have experienced this. To be betrayed is hard enough, but by a best friend is beyond gut wrenching.
