Lies and Goodbyes

The warmth of our love continues to fade
in the coolest breeze of winter wind
Just like you and me singing in the streets
Holding hands until we lost our cool
"I love you" you whispered to me
My heart cried as I don't deserve those words

Our love is rare, so are we
You love me, I loved you
I was cold, you were warm
I was tired, you were there
I gave up, then you cried
You gave me love, I gave you goodbye

I gave up for you to not feel the love of lies.

That last line is a butt-kicker of self-honesty. Wow! I've done that myself, but never really defined it as perfectly as you do in your last line. As for your poem, it seems to kinda meander here & there, I wasn't sure if this was describing a good & lasting relationship or a broken & dying one, as it seemed to sway back & forth between the two possibilities. But then finally in the end, I get that the narrator is saying goodbye to avoid the biggest & most painful lie. Excellent message crafting.
