Haunted

Heavy beating of the heart,

A pounding drum within my ear.

Shadows dance and mingle,

As they prey upon my fears.

 

Breathless frozen air,

Fills the room in a cold steam.

Whispers echo in the darkness,

Awaken when I need to dream.

 

Eerie feelings linger close,

Eyes stare in frightening glance.

Tormented by this undying soul,

A victim of a dead romance.

 

Crimson tears, lifeless regrets

In an unchangeable past.

My only hope for you,

May you rest in peace at last.

 

Author's Note

A bit of therapy for me, as upon my hospital return I recently had a suicide happen in my apartment building. This also was never meant to rhyme.

I can hear the "haunted nature" you have hear. I'm also sorry about your neighbor, but you wrote a beautiful piece here... When I first read it I thought of a kid waking up from a nightmare in a dark room and scary images... I liked it. Lovely write. :)

It's sad when people choose death over the God-given choice to correct wrongdoings of life...but sometimes people chose the other way.. your poem brings to life the horrors that elude many of the simple joys of life... the way you have rhymed without intending to do do only shows how deeply affected you were by this incident! Death make us learn how precious life is. The poem told a sad tale with a sad ending. Sad to learn of a suicide. Hard to understand why someone would think death was sweeter then life. Thank you for the outstanding poem.
