Chapter Five

Chapter Five

A Chapter by Dream Catcher

The moon provides a glimpse light through the forest trees. Thorns scratch my jacket and tear at my exposed feet. The scent of fire wood is strong. I tighten my grasp on the flashlight. It’s one of those flashlights that cops have. It weights about five pounds and is over a foot long. You could easily knock someone out with it. It’s great in defense but can easily get me exposed.

A black hat camouflages my blond hair. I have on army pants along with a black cotton jacket. My rain boots got damaged enough on the gravel so I have on my Mom’s black flip flops.

The fire lies about ten feet away. I get into a squatting position. It feels like I’ve been in the forest for ages. A dark figure stands around the fire. He pushes something up to his mouth and then returns it to his side. He bends down and returns with a cigarette in his mouth. I really dislike smokers. Espically since my Mom smokes. I’m not really a huge fan of my Mom. Considering she’s never around.

He now stands with his back facing me. Carefully, I get into standing position.

“Snap.” Perfect. He turns my way faster than Wil, when I mention space crafts.

I shine my flashlight in his frightened eyes. His cigarette drops to the ground. He takes a few steps back knocking over his soda can. He holds his hands up in the air as if I was a police officer.

He has dirty blond hair. It’s scruffy. He has a tall lean body. He wears a normal gray shirt with ripped jeans. He has a leather brown sandals-interesting.

When he takes note of what I look like, he drops his hands. His frightened face relaxes as a relieved smile grows on his face.

“Man, you had me scared” He smiles as he leans over with his hands on his knees.

I don’t say a word. I examine him as if he were one of Wil’s made up alien friends.

“Who are you?” I strongly say.

“I’m Ernest but people call me Ernie.” He smiles at me and extends a hand. His hand plops to his side.

Does he not notice that I’m out searching for the loser camping out in my forest? Does he expect me to be friendly in return?

“You’re in my forest. I want you out.” I’m dead serious. The funniest joke could not crack a smile on my face.

“You sure do get to the point, Lindsey.” His eyes search mine. He looks a few years older than me. Nineteen, maybe, “Did hearing your name make your heart stop? Or do you not have a heart?” He’s now serious.

I place my right hand over my chest. No heart beat, “Tell me what you know about me.” An eerie smile forms on my face.
