Sleeping Spirit

Sleeping Spirit

A Poem by Carol Phelan Aebby

                 "Sleeping Spirit"

Layers of experiences cloud the mind,
And dull the spiritual and physical senses.
Violence is rampant, love is lost words
Float in the air, jeering with absent meanings.

Colors darken with age, - losing their purity, -
As we search in vain for that one work of art;
The expression of the essence that would
Erase all others; stand alone, and satisfy
The spirit. The quiet one that sits alone
In the depths of the soul; - fully influenced,
Cringing from the horrors of many lives,
Wishing for release, - fearing exposure, -
Waiting for the light... A clear light that will free
The limits of the mind, and lift the artist within.

My favorite lines:
The expression of the essence that would
Erase all others; stand alone, and satisfy
The spirit.

We all would give anything to find a solace in an expression that is undiluted of any malice or interest in this world.
Very interesting piece carol! :)

I believe take a hard jerk to awake the mind to writing. Must live and test life to create.
"Wishing for release, - fearing exposure, -
Waiting for the light... A clear light that will free
The limits of the mind, and lift the artist within."
After the artist is awoken. Unlimited possibilities. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
