Just As Afraid of You

Just As Afraid of You

A Poem by Neva Flores Smith - Changefulstorm
"

Have you ever hid in a corner while night ran barefoot down your hall.............

"

Have you ever hid in a corner

and imagined the night
ran barefoot
down your hall?

Perhaps it was as frightened
of the hours
and what would happen
before morning chose
to speak
as much as you.

Did you find that you were frozen
by the silence
yet still remained puzzled
in the knowledge
that a mere sound
should be the very thing
you fear the most?

Have you ever decided
not to check under your bed
then later wished you had so badly
because you could taste
fear's own breath?

Did it ever occur to you
what is under there
in the first place
may be just as afraid of you?

I like it! It gives as new meaning to the night and how eary and frightning it really can be. I love the way you use personification throught the poem.

LOL. I love this Ms. Flores. I remember my Grandma had a strange noise in her basement that always frightened me when I stayed there. I think it was just the A/C
Furnace , but I never went down to check. Thanks for the memories.

I really like how you've personified the night and our inherent fear of it, as though it was a mere reflection. :D Wonderful piece! :D

Oh - I'm smiling and a small but silent under the bed chuckle. Neva, I love the way you wrote this. The imagery was wonderful.

This would be a great film poem - One that you would see at the beginning of a horror film. These words you wrote would set the minds eye right into the image of the film.

ahh, darkness - once you make it your own, it can actually be really sweet...fear, once conquered, makes room for pride :)...
