Winter Slumber

Winter Slumber

A Poem by Cherrie Palmer
"

the close of fall

"

My painted autumn came to an end as

the breath of God turned morning dew to a lacey rime

Gale force winds stomped out the sun

and just for spite brought lightning and the thunder.

Heavens hail battered the earth below,

as slowly it turned to an icy snow.

The azure sky was tucked away

as billowing clouds came my way.

An eiderdown of ice was formed,

as fall's last bloom became tightly bound

now encased in its crystal tomb

for a lengthy winter slumber

silence engulfs winter's first plunder.

I feel the howling wind, the cold, the damp, the ice and then the snow.
What a picture you portray with just a few well chosen words!
By the way do you mean `encases the ground' ?
I especially like the way you use:
`as falls last bloom
is wrapped in its winter slumber. '

You make Winter beautiful... hey how did you do that? =)
It seems all over the United States we have seen our fair share of snow already.

You've made 5 lines so effective
"Heaven hail covered the below as slowing it turned to an icy snow".
Im 17 and not even my mother could hit my heart with words like you just did
WONDERFUL LOVE IT
