Hurricane Dolly

Hurricane Dolly

A Story by Dead Angel
"

my town was hit by hurricane dolly and it was my very first hurricane, i just wanted to share what it was like for me

"

Hello everyone,

I am writing to you by flashlight. It is 8:26 pm on July 23 and Hurricane Dolly is working its chaos right outside my home. As I am writing to you I can hear the savage winds hitting my home and the rain flooding my streets. This is my first experience with a hurricane and i will not lie by saying that i am not scared. With every gust of wind I worry that a piece of my home will fly away. Just yesterday I was telling people that our little southern town has had close calls before and this is no different, but now I see that I was completely wrong. I've heard and seen on TV at how fierce and strong mother nature can be, but never have I experienced it. This is only a category 2 hurricane but its enough to show me how angry she can get. A BBQ pit that we have in our backyard that usually takes at least 3 people to move, flew 5 feet by the wind like it was tissue paper. I see trees that are as strong as can be waving about so fierecly in the wind. I also fear that one of them will break and fall on my home or on a home of a neighbor. On the news, I saw a streetlight broken and waving about like a piece of string. I know some of you have experienced far worse weather, but this category 2 hurricane is by far the worst kind of weather I have ever experienced in all my 20 years of life. I worry about the rest of my family and all my friends and pray that they are safe, I pray that this storm passes quickly and I pray that I never see this side of mother nature ever again.

Wow - I totally know where you are coming from. Although we don't get hurricanes in my little prairie city, we DO experience some rough weather. Especially this year. The extremes of mother nature's actions are growing each and every year and it is quite obvious. Just a few weeks ago we had a storm. The biggest tree in our yard snapped, landed on the power, cable, and telephone lines, and ripped each out of the house in one swift move. Weather can truly be a terrifying thing, mainly because there is nothing we can do.. we can't lock it up.. we can't reason with it.. we can tell it to calm. So here we are, helpless, trying to just survive her wrath.
Great write. I'm glad you got through it and didn't lose your home.

Excellent write, Claudia. I could completely sense the building apprehension the more I read. I have seen some storms with winds up to 80mph, but no hurricanes. I've seen some after effects of ravashed homes (my friends parents' house is right on the water on the Florida gulf and they were flooded twice already when I saw the wreckage of one hurricane.) It was quite the ominous experience viewing the wreckage. So many people literally threw out tons of debris that certainly once made up something they loved. I hope you didn't endure any severe damage, and that you and yours are all ok. Thank you for sharing your experience with us, it's a good thing. Much love~~

haven't had the experience before although slept through a bad storm once and when I awoke found a chimney half way lodged in my bedroom ceiling. I live in the UK though and things are pretty docile here but with climate change who knows whats coming for us.

glad you survived along with your home!

Hurricanes are really frightening. Years ago when I was visiting my grandparents in Florida, a hurricane came at us in the middle of the night that wasn't supposed to. And I was sleeping in a sun porch!!! That's an experience I never want to have again.

I'm glad you made it through alright. :) Thank you for sharing.

A honest account of scary situation. What brings this peice alive is that you were there. In the middle of it all in the eye of the storm. Maother Nature can be one nasty girl when she wants to be. It's funny how man kind has not learnt in many years of study. Nature is about balance and hurricans and thyphoons and quakes are her way of redressing the balance, also is not scared to fire a warning shot across our bows. Having said that nature can be a savage beast like you have written about here. bricks and mortor can seem so fragile at times when cables and trees are crashing down. I like the way you gave a hurricane a personality you brought Dolly to life for us well done on that. A scary experience that will only make you and your writing stronger. i tip my hat in your direction Kudos

I know how you feel, I was once in a huricane with 2 cyclones along with it. I know exactly how scary it can be. But as Jofer said, makes quite a story, doesn't it?:)

I just got over a recent typhoon too. It's been a month since then. I was fortunate enough to be spared since people around us lost their homes and such. Experiences make up for good stories, doesn't it?
