The Janitor

The Janitor

A Poem by Cole Hayley

The Janitor

An indescribable practitioner is the janitor in the science hall,

for the lent years of repetitiveness has allowed him to hone his art.

The janitor knows not to speak to the professors.

The janitor knows not to hassle the students.

Instead the janitor partakes in the science of laconism

never ushering a single concise sentence to any human being

or even the most peculiar lab rat.

With his dust broom the janitor will sweep up the fallacy of the lecturers,

swiftly poking the dirt underneath the shadows of anamnesis.

But still the janitor will never ask for any sign of recognition,

instead he will watch people come in and out of tangency around him.

Sometimes some stay stagnant in the foreground and watch him work,

while others keep their heads down and walk through the walls.

Still the janitor does not care for the snickers of colleagues.

But from time to time the janitor would listen in to the lectures

he would hear the correct names for all the flowers

and exactly how they got their exquisite colours.

He would hear the teachers go on about the stars,

and how excited they got when talking about the enticing nebulas

"the sweet sent of far away planets."

The janitor just laughed to himself.

For every time he got out of the science hall he had walked home.

In the night sky he could see the star cluster Eridanus radiate,

gleaming so effortlesslytlsy along with Lyra, Cygnus, Puppis and so forth.

Yet the janitor knew knowing their names never made the site any more

...spectacular

On his way he always picked a Lotus Flower from the university garden

never once referring to it by its proper name "nelumbo nucifera"

but just simply called it beautiful.

this is really a beautiful tale like the ending word say. I sense of melancholy in the janitor's ways, but he doesnt care because he has his own ways. great!

good to know that you still post your poems.

"while others keep there heads down " *their
"effortlesslytlsy" This is obvious. ;)

Love this poem! It's sort of dark and deep. I really liked the metaphors used. Brilliant as always, Cole.
