The Canvas of the Soul

The Canvas of the Soul

A Poem by Mazie

Remember that, the ghost of yesterday,

Of she who left, from out our reach of sight

The ghost disguised in light for every day,

The lingering ghost who looms in darkest night.

A piece of she, the memories packed and framed,

A piece of life lost long with Father Time

And in that frame, a piece of cloth still stained

Forever still, the marker marks her sign.

Though silent, perched, where dust has gathered well

The throne of  past, to hoist her memory high
To show the world in speech which never tells,

The stories hang so she shall never die.

The soul, an art in colour-coded tones,

A piece of she, forever stands alone.

Author's Note

Mazie
Essentially, this poem is comparing the artist's soul to what she/he creates on their painting canvas. As long as the picture hangs, a piece of them lives on forever - like the stories we make.

I have only read this poem, out of your entire writing collage, but I can say I'll definitely be looking at more of your work. I tend to interpret the best way to read a specific poem early on and stick with that cadence all the way through, unless otherwise instructed by the tone, and so this one had a much slower pace than I had origionally anticipated. It isn't often that on this site I come across someone of your caliber. That isn't to say that the other writers don't do well, we are all at different parts of the curve and ever learning, but it was refereshing to read something that I don't feel requires the basic critiques.

We do, all of us, hold a canvas of ourselves every day. You express yours with your writing and painting, but how we carry ourselves makes us all living breathing paintings. Sometimes I feel like the world is more complicated as a picture than a moving thing. I'm very pleased to have stumbled across you.Keep at it.

Very elegant and mesmerizing. Love the delicate, yet deep weaving of words. Nicely penned.

Like the writer who uses words as their medium, the artist through the brush, gives us a glimpse into their very soul !

A bit nostalgic and pretty, "an art in colour-coded tones" has to be my favorite line from this piece. Thanks for sharing, it was thoroughly enjoyed.
