Sleep Darling

Sleep Darling

A Poem by Tasha

"
Sleep darling,
so you won't have to live
in a world of sin,

Sleep darling,
so you won't have to suffer
from being abused
or being a prostitute,

Sleep darling,
so you won't have to wake up
next to a stranger...

Sleep darling...
until I can find your father,
because I don't want you
to live like I have to live
just to survive...

Sleep darling,
so you won't have to feel the drugs
and the alcohol

Sleep darling,
until its your time to wake up,
I long to find a better life for us
sweet baby... so until then...
sleep my precious little angel

Author's Note

 Tasha
My friends mom works with abused women and children and I went with her to work yesterday and we interviewed a pregnant and former prostitute and drug addict and how she wants to get her life together for her unborn child. It was really sad, but this is what I came up with.

Again, another true-to-life portrait. I volunteer at a battered womens shelter every couple of weeks, and to say its a miserable place is being kind. The kids are the most scarred of all. That poem's a dream that every mother wants for their child ... those that are trying, that is. Well done.

the expressions reveal how closely you have felt the lady's pain that is dribbling thru the words.. liked it for the theme, the flow of write as well as the cause.

i have friends who use sleep as a form of escapism, and this really reminded me of that. i see, from your note, that it's really about a girl seeking solstace and being comforted like a child... good poem though :D

Sometime people can break your heart. Scary part if the woman was doing drugs and alcohol. Good chance child will have some kind of damage to mind and body. Some jobs have no real good answer. People are there to assist and try to help. Seeing people who have so little to lose. Would be a hard thing to do. Thank you for the sad and powerful poem.

This was so depressing :/ It's sad to think that this really happens in life.
At least it has a sense of hope and faith to it, like she's looking forward to the future to get better for the daughter she loves.
Good job, very emotional

if only it were guaranteed that we could protect our children from all this stuff. Unfortunately we just have to hope that they will sleep sound and wake up to a better tomorrow. Beautiful poem

Mothers are the greatest person in my heart. The things that they give to their child is not only love or sweet, it's more than that. Mothers love their child no matter how much to spend on them, and children, can never reply their mother back in any way. Never, no matter how many thank yous or gifts you give to your mother, you still can't. Their love is way farther than that.

I think this poem is sad but hopeful. I would encourage the mother to raise her child, borning a life is precious. It's amazing. Despite there are many circumstances, the mothers would still protect their innocent child. This poem fight me down a sea of tears. Wonderful and touching.
