Abandonment Wounds

Abandonment Wounds

A Chapter by Dina

Driving 60 on the freeway
The dealer says that you can meet him
He’s just 10 minutes away
The baby’s sleep for the day

And you’ve been hiding some things
Like the way that you been feeling when dad left you
And the way you hadn’t healed since her dad pressed you

You’ve been scraping by
Withering
Wondering why
Life hasn’t been too fair

But when the dealer is here
You’re back to yourself
He sells you top shelf
For a discount

And sometimes he does a dismount
And tries to feel on you instead
You try to set a boundary
He makes you think it’s in your head

And you try to keep your voice down
So that the baby doesn’t stress
While you’re stressed out
It’s a mess now

You felt left out as a kid
Too much freedom had you going places
Knowing you shouldn’t
Knowing you needed more protection
Mom and dad left you too defenseless

And you resent them, don’t you?
Oh you resent them don’t you
But you respect them
You still respect them
Don’t you?
They know you
They know too
