The Ship

The Ship

A Poem by Dressed in Poetry

The ship set off in applause –
Surely like the great Titanic must have –
And began its long voyage
Across the great sea.
It was said by some to be
Captained by Charon himself
To the land by Acheron
(Or Styx, if you prefer).
It sought immortality,
This ship cloaked in darkness,
Like the infamous Flying Dutchman,
Roaming the seas in search
Of the obsession of all men.
But know, my journeyman,
That this ship was steered
By a man as fanatic as the
Captain of the Pequod.
The commander, in his frenzy to discover
The land of Athanasia,
Led the ship straight into the depths,
Where it sits forevermore,
A victim of Queen Anne’s Revenge.

Your use of simile is effective, my favorite lines are the last two:

Where it sits forevermore,
A victim of Queen Anne's Revenge.

I think this was written well and well thought out. Thank you for sharing.
