Draft Day

Draft Day

A Poem by Jack Kennedy
"

The Motion

"

On the twenty second of may,
For me is a certain draft day
Drafted to a land of uncertainty
This fact alone just worries me

Shipped out with a lost mind
All of us lined up to be set 'free'
What will ever happen to me
Must I be drafted in the league

Will I end up like others before me
Heartless, miserable and alone
Hopeless, detestable and single
Who knows, I'll find out in time

On the twenty second of may
I will be on the stage waiting,
Waiting to be finally drafted,
Drafted to a land of uncertainty

As I stepped from the threshold of childhood to that of a young man so many years ago I too took the time in stride, questioning life like do now. I still hope I will be half the man I want to be but that like many things is a process of time and effort.

Kudos man and keep it up.

╰☆╮Definitely an interesting outlook on graduation. I remember the uncertainty I felt at my own high school graduation. Write on!╰☆╮

I like the consistent use of the word "drafted". We have no real control over that faithful day and yet I feel so many of us if we could would savor those last few moments before real freedom is taken away, and the shackles of freedom are put in there place. We have these ideals that we are expected to follow yet so many of us are barely at a point where we can even understand ourselves or our own emotional spectrum. Thank you for this, it reminds me of days where even the most complex thought was simple and pure.

Nice poem. It's takes me back to my graduation days (that was a while ago lol). Though I had the thought of not tripping over my 6 inch heels in my head at the time, I like that this poem points out the trains of thought that a lot of high school seniors may or may not or will experience on their graduation days. Congrats by the way on completing high school. Are you planning to go to college? Once you step out into the world on your own, however, thinks start looking up somehow and it's a bit more fun to get to have experiences that you embark on on your own. I feel that it's our responsibility to make the best of whatever it is that life will throw at us. Great poem my friend. :)

As we step or have stepped out in the world, who knows what or has unfolded. We can only do our best to make the most of what comes or is thrown our way. Love the title to this. Terrific piece.

wow -very good- feelings of an 18 yr old being drafted, Haven't even been old enough to drink your first beer but giving up your life for your country of which you have never yet seen. Yes, that is something to write about if you have been there and done that- many off to Vietnam were and came back to a home with no honor for their services-sad. Now go ahead and write bout that ! IF in fact you lived it, felt it and can share it!

Congrats!

Anyway, I'm going to be a senior this coming year.

So, I know exactly how you feel!

It's gonna be tough.

But hey,
you're strong.

The real world has nothing on you. (:

I loved the rhyme game. It's always a pleasure reading your pieces.
