I didn’t think I’d wake up again. But I did. The next day I opened my eyes in the hospital with 15 stitches in my shoulder.

The Son of Satan saved my life. I was attacked by vampires and saved by the Son of Satan; the absolute truth I continued to assert even though the doctor insisted I was hallucinating.

A week later I found my demonic savior sitting at the bus stop looking decidedly un-demonic. He slouched on the bus stop’s bench, his long legs stretched out in front of him and his hands braced behind his head. A beautiful black woman with long, straight crimson-dyed hair and full lips that looked stained with blood. She had her arms crossed over her chest and she tapped her black leather, heeled boots impatiently. She said something to him , flashing white teeth and too-long canines. I slowed my approach and strained my ears to hear their conversation…

“-why I must go with you.” She huffed.

The Son of Satan shrugged. “Insurance. Your legion is loyal to you for a reason. I need you with me to assure that they do what I tell them.”

The woman sighed loudly and sat down beside him. She pursed her lips and didn’t say anything else.

He roved his eyes around him eventually locking with mine. His eyes widened in recognition and he hastily looked away.

I closed the distance between us in a few long strides. “Thank you for saving me. Joseph Sludge, Son of Satan.”

“What the hell are you talking about, you crazy b***h?” He snapped at me , but the truth was evident in his voice.

“Please don’t try to lie to me.” I responded.

He narrowed his eyes at me, “just leave me alone,” he growled.

I pretended to ignore his threatening tone, “Why did you save me?”

His face twisted into an annoyed snarl. “I could and I felt like it. Now get the f**k out of here.”

I sat down beside him on the bench with a smile. “Nah.”
