Richer.

Richer.

A Poem by Fay Slimm

Richer.

No matter what business may pour

into making fortunes

there are always spots of caught

gold atop stillness of water

and silver on sticklebacks splashing

in crystalline shallows as

shy kingfisher on river bank

dips jewelled wings as he passes.

and sapphire as sky-tint changes

when sun colours rising day

with pearls on horizon lacing

            grey clouds in priceless diamanté.

What could be richer I ask.

This is a gracefully woven word portrait of what it feels like to be rich in spirit, however that may manifest in the flesh. In line 3, I believe "is" should be "are" (spots being plural). Your description drawn from nature is dynamic & alive . . . being alive is what I believe most people long for, even if they think they want to buy something (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Sp so pleased you enjoyed the read of my posting on Richer dear Margie and thanks for the note on it.. read more
The physical/chemical/biological gifts our universe disperses across it's structure are all ultimately derived freely in nature. The real uniqueness the human species brings to the table is how we harvest, recombine, redistribute, etc., etc., those things into a series of cultures over seemingly long periods of time. All life in general is unique in this way, humans just make more shiny things than anything else, ever.... as far as we know.

I felt a nice, warm, universally hopeful sentiment coming from this poem. Because the things that truly make us richer are the things coming from within us that first allow us to make all this shiny crap and take care of all our loved ones and propagate the species over vast distances of time and space.

gold, silver and sapphire...of course one would think of money and gems...
but these are the priceless riches bestowed upon us by Mother Nature...the beauty that she gives us for free, which is as you say, priceless.
beautiful work, Fay...
