September Rain

September Rain

A Poem by Fran Marie

September wrap your arms around me
     prepare me for the fall
with refreshing cool wet rains and breeze
    for soon Autumn shall call

Put spent flowers from August to sleep
Shine a September moon I implore
All that's been sewn is now reaped
'Tis time to close summer's door

Oh September, your sky is shy and sly
and I'm ready for what you tell
Lucky to be born under your stars
I fear I know you well

A month with two faces worn

    one of sun and heat

the other tells a tale of scorn

     one of coldness and deceit

For you're the changing of the guard

    this I shall always remember

and your morning rain falling in my yard

tells me it is now September

This is a beautiful piece. Fall is a mysterious time and beckons change, just as you suggest. I love how you have personified the season. Very good write....and it is a memorable one as well.

Personification is not an easy poetic element to use, but for you, it's a cinch!

this is an amazing write Fran; September is my favorite time actually - although I do love the cool winds of October as well. There is just something about September; how I can still wear my shorts during the day ; yet cuddle up under the comforter when the sun goes to sleep. I loved the easy flow of this work; the rhyme scheme made it roll off the tongue when read aloud.
