A Widows Request

A Widows Request

A Poem by Gee
"

So many find it so hard to be around the newly bereaved.

"
Please come visit, often, as before...
bring no gifts, flowers, only friendship.
Bring not trepidation or awkwardness,
as it is circumstance and not I that have changed.
Bring me not your sadness and heavy heart,
as these at present I own by right.
Instead bring memories,
memories of good times spent.
Speak his name but without hesitation or fear,
as that will never die unless allowed.
Reminisce with stories, laughter, smiles,
and this will be my comfort.
And if you do this he will live on,
in our hearts and minds.
Please come visit, and often...

If someone comes to you still in tears, know this is out of love, too. I needed to read this, though. I've been experiencing a loss for words when the happiest ones are obviously what I should choose to tell her... My heart breaks with you.

Thank you,just open your heart......
I really like the style of the writing in this one. As I was reading it, it felt like music in a sense of a beat. Good job!

Thank you Edis
Holy sausage Gee. I love this one!
I call on a woman whose son I knew since school - a quiet soul but who turned out to be a tyrant in drink. I call and tell her how kind he was to me at school. "You're the only one that calls, Anto.'
It kills me when she says that because when my friend had money in the bars - he had friends.

This is superb writing my friend especially loved the lines
"Bring me not your sadness and heavy heart, as these at present,I own by right." - top notch.

Thank you....
This was eloquently expressed. Perfect cadence: sombre, but resiliant. This should be read at wakes.

Thanks WM......
Some of us feel like this, others break down and flee back to their close family. I left all and ran, much too soon. I was afraid to be alone...now at times I long for alone times. All should wait a year before making major decisions. I wish I had. Valentine
