Mask Of Lies

Mask Of Lies

A Poem by Hopeless Dreamer
"

I needed to rant.

"

I think it's funny.

People are so gullible sometimes.

You say you're fine,

And everyone just believes it.

People are too consumed in themselves,

That they don't see the pain they put into your life.

They don't see the inside of your mind,

All the negative things that lurk in the darkness.

It's easy for people to believe the mask you put on,

Because the truth is…

Nobody really cares.

If you're wearing a smile everyone will believe you're happy,

They believe all the lies.

Even if you're slowly breaking down inside,

No one will notice.

They're too worried about what everyone else thinks,

And getting likes on their Instagram posts.

You can act like you care all you want,

I know the empathy is fake.

I've learned that if people really care,

They'll look deeper.

They'll see the pain behind your eyes,

They'll see how truly broken you are.

And those people who do see it,

Are broken themselves.

They know the pain and hurt all too well.

They understand what it's like

To hate the body you came in.

They know how it feels,

To hate the life you live,

To regret every decision you make.

They wallow in self pity

Just like you do.

They sit in their room and cry,

Alone because they know if they tell someone,

They'll be called a freak

Or an attention w***e.

It's easier to hide it,

Even if they hate the pain

they can't get rid of it.

When it's the only emotion you feel,

You welcome it because,

If there's no pain

Then we're just empty,

Hollow shells of our old selves,

Lifeless beings,

That are only here

Because we're too scared,

To pass the pain onto someone else.

Even if your pain is slowly killing you,

Dragging you down,

Until you finally reach your breaking point,

But that's a story for another time.

Until then we'll just keep it hidden and

Let everyone believe the mask of lies

Sometimes, just sometimes, lack of trust has to be seen as a crime, both as victim and so.called uncaring assailant. If a person truly, deeply wants help, it's there, believe me, it is. Fear can be seen as arrogant because many are afraid of being seen as nosey, afraid of being pushed away. To recieve, one needs to give, be prepared to receive, surely.

Your poem is superbly written, you've listed almost every reason for drawing away from help, kindness, sharing.. but comes a time you tell the whole story, not at 'another time' but.. who knows, when what's hidden has festered inside. Perhaps.

Ah yes. Attention w***e. What a title.

What's so odd is how you said "and those people who do see it, are broken themselves" and it's accurate. Yet even when we're broken and others are too, we still keep to ourselves. What a brilliant cycle...

It's true people often disregard your pain and issues just to avoid human conversation and empathy. But you have to do your part as well. You have to leave a little light on for someone who truly cares to see what is going on inside you.this was written from your pain and it was courageous on your part sharing it with us.well done
