Writers Cafe - Once in a while, they still come back.

Writers Cafe - Once in a while, they still come back.

A Poem by Relic

Once in a while
as though pulled in by some desire,
or force,
some decide to take a ride back
to Writers Cafe.

It's not always a long visit, yet,
they still come back
as though returning to their old home.

"I remember Robbie,
or Marie, or Frieda P," they might say.

They may recall this place in a way one might remember
flags that lined porches,
or trees on each side of the street where they lived.
But still, they remember this place.
Their names are still on the mailbox.

For better or worse, this is a community.

Some have moved on, as they should.
And some are still here pruning nouns
or mowing verbs.

Some have even died.

The street may look different.
Trees may be bigger.
And old friends may be gone for good.

But on this block,
you're never turned away
no matter how long you've been gone
or how many times you move on.

They'll always be opportunities to write about
the sun, the rain, a train...

Writers Cafe -
on this block, once in a while,
they still come back.

Well, one of the new ones here. So far it doesn't look like the other sites I've been on.. Wattpad and writing.com.. Grrrrrr everything is about paying for getting advertised and the a*s kissing..

Don't care for that stuff, sooo after some exploration I decided on this site

We'll see how it goes.
Cheers

Dear Relic!! fantastic write ...gave my goosebumps ... picture could not be better .. me Da told me when I was a teen the we can never really "go back" ... the old hood changes and we change .. but you have captured something we have here at the Cafe' with beauty, reminiscence and community .. i am just coming back myself ... the first "break" i have taken from the Cafe' for over a decade ... you have written a timeless piece says i ... one we can all relate to and cherish ... luv and joy

Thank you for your wonderful comment, Pat. 😀
Such a fun read dear Relic... and, I do so like the image you chose...
I accidentally found this site while I was dealing with Covid in January 2022
I was looking for a site where I could post my poems for the first time and quickly chose this one simply because I liked the name... Silly, I know... but it turned out to be the perfect place for me to be...
But that has always been the way my life has been,

If I'm not mistaken, I may have done something similar. Thanks very much for the comment, Lisa. :)
A lovely tribute to the neighborhood with the writers cafe on the block….people come and go, or stay for lengthy times, but are always welcomed back….it is indeed a community, one that is friendly….some are more than others, but mostly kind as well…personally, I’ve learned a lot from some of the great writers in this cafe..and have made some good friends!
Best, B

What a gentle, generous tribute to the people who make up this virtual neighborhood, finely delineated through your rich imagery and metaphors.

Thanks so much for the read and comment. I appreciate it. 😊
Yes, they/we still come back. I think I've been a member of every poetry site there is. I've been a member of Writers Cafe at least four times, and left. But here I am - back again. Too old to leave again, I hope to stay until the end, this time. A few old friends are still here, but I see many, many new faces. Always room for more, here at the Cafe!
