Prayerful Mutterings

Prayerful Mutterings

A Chapter by J Todd Underhill

In the abandoned asylum;

The air is so cold I am numb.

The moon’s rays are the only light,

Oh Lord please protect me this night.

Hearing voices when all alone,

I journey into the unknown.

This prayer to you I now recite,

Oh Lord please protect me this night.

This asylum long forgotten;

With the doctor beyond rotten.

History I cannot rewrite,

Oh Lord please protect me this night.

The stories that were shared before

I see his name upon the door

And my fear has been set alight

Oh Lord please protect me this night

Now have I really lost my mind,

Seek not or maybe you shall find.

Embrace me with you blinding light,

Oh Lord please protect me this night.

 Stepping forward into the room,

Now such a long forgotten tomb.

Fighting my spirits need for flight,

 Oh Lord please protect me this night.

Yes, I felt I was at Catholic mass with this one... hehehe... but on a serious note:

The air is so cold I am numb.
The moon’s rays are the only light,

Beautiful prayer. He is always with us no matter where we are. :)

This reminds me of Poe somehow, the way it flows you could imagine the reader growing more unsettled as he is reading to the point of near hysteria at the end.
Brilliantly captured and the mental unrest of the main character is captured clearly here!

A sound addition to you growing collection of wonders. Really this sings to me. It is light like the air and flows so wonderfully.
