One Moment

Just some thoughts about the defining moments in relationships

The hours and days

We’ve spent together

Have culminated

To this moment-

 

In breathless confusion

I ask myself

How did this happen?

 

I wasn’t trying

To impress you like that.

I just wanted your friendship.

To share some time with you.

Just a little time.

 

I needed someone to listen to-

So I didn’t have to think about my own life

And all that had changed for me.

 

I never dressed up

Or put on my makeup.

I never played the game

Or pretended to be more than I am.

 

I wasn’t trying

To make it into anything.

I didn’t care if you

Were impressed by me.

I was not thinking about

Where it would lead

Or that there would

Come a day

When you would stand

Before me

 

And Simply say…

 

“I Love You”
