All That I Am

All That I Am

A Chapter by My Fair Lady

Take from me my children

I will still be a mother

You cannot take from me

The feeling of carrying a child

The sound of little feet

The smell of baby skin

The fullness of my breasts

The scars on my body

Will always be a sign

that I am a mother

Take from me my home and family

I will still be a Wyoming Girl

You cannot take from me

The big blue sky

The healing wind

The mountain flowers

The cooling rain on my face

I will love to visit anywhere

But every road will lead me home

I am a Wyoming girl

Take from me my self esteem

I will still be a woman

You cannot take from me

The intimate desires of my heart

The femininity I exude

The need and desire to be loved

And to love in return

The nurturing soul that I am

Will always be a sign

That I am a woman

Take from me my bowl and spoon

I will still be a baker

You cannot take from me

The smell of bread baking

The sweet scent of vanilla

The heavy spice of cloves and ginger

The fruity familiar yeast

Try to make me be something I am not

And I will always bake my bread

I am a baker

Take from me my piano

I will still be a musician

You cannot take from me

The song I carry in my heart

The scars of string cut fingers

The melody I write in my head

It is in all that I see and hear

The inspiration for my song is

In all that I know

I am a musician

All that I am

You tried to take from me

But you could not

Imprinted upon my body

My heart, mind and soul

Is the trace of all that I am

You told me I wasn't desireable

because of my maternal scars

You said my creativity was a waste

You tried to force me

to be something I clearly am not

you did not appreciate

all that I am

The poem is so good. I agree with your words. Can't take away the memories from our heart and mind. Complete poem flowed with a perfect story and ending. We need to hold on to the good memories and remember where we came from. A outstanding poem. Thank you.

This is so incredibly touching and to me it touches an extremely soft spot as I'm sure it will do my mother who I just sent this too. The emotion in this is so dead on and inspiring. Inspired!

Had to read this again - the very essence of us always remains, which is the fundamental, existential truth of it all.

So so true. So very well constructed, too.

wow, this poem blows my mind, it should be an inspiration to all women,
this masterpiece of expression encompasses strenght, beauty and wisdom.
passionately scripted, poetically pinctuated. honest and real. 100
