I really liked the 'escalator-visual' formatting device you chose but it also struck me as being like the ballast that hot air balloons used to use - here it is emotional ballast - like sand-bags being dropped off one by one allowing the vehicle to rise and transcend into the heady heights of an emotion-free atmosphere.
Your great imagery writing always in turn fires off more imagery KwP.
