The Planet of Humanity

The Planet of Humanity

Excuse me Earth,

is this a game of hide and seek?

I cannot seem to find humanity anywhere.

Searched I have the

pillaged, all but dwindling,

ransacked, barren forests of the world.

The wind left alone screaming for home

asking why?

I did not find humanity.

Visited I have,

hopeful bodies seeking new homeland,

escaping horrors on the backward turn,

petrified of passage forward.

Now,

drowned, dead, bloated.

Broken shredded sunken boat, they are

lost and forgotten,

floating face down,

staring unblinkingly into,

an ocean of unforgiving welcome.

Last word etched on their lips,

why?

I did not find humanity.

Touched the stuck-out ribs

of famished third world kids I did.

Hunger lost in the knowledge of nothing.

Noting the blind eyes numbed

in a first world of

gidget gadgets

aiding only to forget the now.

I did not find humanity.

Witness time and again

the earth shudder and break I do.

Blasts of mortar shatter the soul.

Shrill incoming airstrikes splitting truths.

Parents clutching children,

all to familiar anticipation of death.

Warfare far too commonplace.

The innocent bloody and torn

wait for dust to settle,

to bury dead, then,

patch together this ‘gift’ called life once more.

Everywhere I hear the silent pleas of

why?

I did not find humanity.

Bones now weak, now brittle

flesh hollow, limp

hearts slowing to comatose

suppressing emotion.

Are we losing the vision of love?

True love.

It is draining away,

I am depleted.

Oh Earth,

when you next see humanity,

please ask to

finish this game of hide and seek

for the rest of us

stopped playing long ago.

Truely inspired. Your words touched my heart, for I feel such compassion for this cause. Our broken Earth, our broken people, I ache for change, as do you. Thank you for sharing such a beautifully written poem

"Noting the blind eyes numbed
in a first world of
gidget gadgets
aiding only to forget the now"....What a perfect description of our blindness to others suffering, starving and needing, while we throw away excess food that we never got round to using.
It's tragic that humanity is the term we use to describe ourselves, while never seeing the irony of our inhumanity of others.
Wonderfully written and structured piece, showing that all aren't blind. Thank you for sharing.

hey thanks so much for your words my friend - ahh yes - but I shall not give up on humanity X
This is so profound. Such a creative way to plead for a better world. And the repetition of the line "I did not find humanity" really worked. A very powerful read. Thank you for sharing.

It was a worthwhile read, and I'm really happy that I stumbled upon your writing on this site :)
Though all good and right minded people feel the need to be heard, eventually the talk will have to surrender to action.

We cannot forever go on thinking things will change simply because we wish it so.

You ask a question that I can offer no real answer to; perhaps a prayer for the second coming might eventually be heard; then again, look what we did last time.

Beccy.

' Everywhere I hear the silent pleas of why?.. .. .. .. I did not find humanity."

In the majority of countries across thie world, thousands and thousands of people talk and write about the fading of Humanity on Earth and in Civilisation. Maybe, just MAYBE if as many people spoke out, voted in the right and wise governments and actually DID something, who knows - we might save ourselves and this planet.

Your words instruct, remind, inspire, sing loud and clear ... thank you from my heart to your ability to speak truth in such fine and creative phrases. This a brilliant piece of gentle power.

Seemed, you drooled the verses of your poetry with "Epic thoughts". Lovely. Your art's just shined up through the words that you've nicely cast to the page. I guess, the metaphor's in conversation with the god and just keep showing him the passages of world and asking him the reason of such duality's, violence and un-satisfactions. The god has already blessed the world with air, water, fire, land, food and homes... moreover, he has already planted the "feelings" - the "emotions" deep in humans's very hearts but still... there's a void... some emptiness left deep inside the world that longs to get drooled with "peace". Very beautiful and thought provoking poetry you've come up with. Am sure, you put your hard efforts to make it looking/reading the way you intended to. Excellent, as always!

You certainly make me "chuckle" .. again "very.. very.. very" chuckle ... cheers xoxo
Been soooo long since I read your work, Beth!!! Loved it and felt all inspired and moved. So much pain, sadness and inequality of life. Every day in news, blogs, social media, we see so much unrest of different sorts and all I can wonder is, 'why can't I do anything about it?'. Such a beautiful and strong piece this one! Glad to have read it, Beth!
